6 Real Reasons Guys Start Caring When You Stop Caring

I am not a believer in the fact that many do not know what they have until they lose it.

People know what they have, and men know what they have.

The only thing is that they just think it is going to last forever, irrespective of how they handle it.

They assume that no matter what they do or how they handle you or things, you’d always be there.

That is why they get comfortable until you stop caring about them and their feelings.

You then start to wonder why they are doing everything you’ve always complained about.

Was it that they were not listening, or were they waiting for you to stop?

What is the real motive behind his caring about you the very moment you stop?

6 Real Reasons Guys Start Caring When You Stop Caring

1. They cared, but didn’t know what you needed

Reasons Guys Start Caring When You Stop Caring

Let’s start with the simplest explanation.

This is something so dicey and tricky at the same time.

It is more like you are speaking your love languages in a way you didn’t even know you were.

He cared about you but didn’t understand how to care for you.

For instance, you said you wanted more attention, and true to him, he keeps showing up for you, but it’s just in a way you didn’t know he did.

You want to be cuddled and have that quiet moment with him where just your bodies and the ticking clock make the sounds.

He, on the other hand, is there, holding you, but having long conversations that you’d rather not have with you.

To the best of his knowledge, you’re having quality time, and to you, it’s a distortion from what you’d rather be doing.

If you bring it up a couple of times as to what you want and how you want it, and there is no change, it might marinate into you moving away from him at any point.

It is at this point that you move away that he becomes aware of what you’ve been saying.

That way, the button clicks in his brain, and he begins to care for you in the way you want to be cared for.

2. They miss your attention, even if they don’t want to change

Everyone seeks validation at different points in their lives, from different people and for different reasons.

And validation cannot come without attention; likewise, can attention not come if you do not value, love, or cherish someone.

My 5-year-old godson validates me at every given opportunity, and I revel in it.

Anytime he doesn’t, I ask him if he doesn’t love me anymore or my cooking.

His love makes me feel important, and it is the same with a man.

When you were always there, showing up for him, checking up, checking in, offering him your shoulder even before he asked, to mention but a few, he loved every bit of it.

These things made him feel very relevant, and he got used to them.

He got so used to him that he forgot that even the nurturer needs to be nurtured.

When you flip the narrative and stop doing all of these things, he starts missing you.

Now don’t get it all mixed up.

He might not necessarily miss who you are or what you need, but what you do for him.

So at that point, he starts to try caring fr you, just enough to bring you back in.

This is why it looks like you being scarce after you have been available and caring for him brings out the caring part of him.

3. They feel guilty for how they treated you

A self-aware man knows when he lets his woman down.

If your man is self-aware and remembers all you’ve been talking to him about, there is a high chance that he knows he messed up the moment you stop caring for him.

He remembers the things you asked for.

He knows he didn’t mirror your actions, let alone give his best when you spoke about these things.

You withholding your care or even stopping to care about him becomes a wake-up call for him.

I am all for a sinner knowing their offence and retracing their steps back to how it is meant to be.

A man who feels guilty when you stop caring for him because of how he treated you is reflective and willing to do right by you.

Just make sure he doesn’t show he cares only when he feels guilty, but makes a permanent change.

An effort in the moment of guilt doesn’t stick because,  just like every other feeling, it is going to be temporary if the change is not intended.

4. They don’t want to lose control

Just like validation, when you care for a man who doesn’t care about you, and he doesn’t reciprocate it, he feels he is in control.

For a toxic man, it is never about love. It is about power, dominance, and authority.

He believes that being in control makes you always available to tend to his needs, no matter how much neglected the relationship is.

Your withdrawing your care from him simply means he is losing his power over you.

Like I mentioned above, the only reason he will care about you when you stop is to draw you back in for you to continue where you stopped.

At this point, he will say everything you want to hear just to make you comfortable enough to think he actually does care.

This kind of man is just trying to manage your reaction, not necessarily trying to fix the relationship.

5. They miss the benefits of being with you

I mentioned above that some guys don’t actually miss you for being you; they only miss you for the things you do for him.

This one misses your cooking, your listening ear, your body, your money, and your emotional support.

Once you stop, he realizes how much he was benefiting from you, and he begins to act like he cares.

That act is just like a clickbait to get back into the life you were once living with him.

Don’t be deceived, sis, he is not more emotionally available, nor does he know how to play his part in the relationship.

He just wants to play a part to get the perks back.

He is a dependent who relies on you fully for his emotional comfort and well-being.

6. They finally believe you’re serious about leaving

Men hear a lot of “I’m done” from women who don’t actually leave.

So over time, they stop taking it seriously.

I have seen this scenario play out a lot of times, and it is always funny in a way.

You say you’re walking away, but still answer his texts and booty calls. Still show up. Still love him like nothing’s changed.

He hears your words, but your actions say otherwise.

But the moment your actions start correlating with your words, he knows it is up.

Fear kicks in, and he starts to do everything you have always asked him to do.

The distance you give him mentally begins to draw him to the very things you have always demanded of him.

You don’t pull away from someone you still want to grow with unless you’ve tried everything else first.

So if you’ve reached the point where you’ve stopped caring, it’s because something in you got tired.

Tired of repeating yourself. Tired of asking for effort. Tired of loving someone who only shows care when they feel like he is losing you.

And now he’s showing up. But it feels too late.

If he didn’t care when you did, you have every right to wonder if his new interest is real… or just regret.

Either way, it’s your call now.

Not his.
